As consumers acquire, view and manage an increasingly wider variety of digital media content on multiple devices, they are demanding access to such content from all of their home devices. The introduction of a wireless local area network (WLAN) based on IEEE 802.11 was the first step toward satisfying this demand. The arrival of XpandR^®, DSP Group's^® wireless multimedia system-on-a-chip (SoC) for wireless home networking, has made this demand a reality.

XpandR is a true all-in-one enabler. It incorporates powerful ARM and DSP core processors, and supports Wi-Fi and DECT to enable picture/video/music streaming and sharing, email, Web browsing, HD voice, and other applications. By offering a Wi-Fi solution, XpandR is accelerating embedded WLAN technology within consumer electronic (CE) devices, leading to the proliferation of wireless networking.

XpandR is WMM-PS QoS-certified. This ensures a compelling user experience for multimedia-rich content such as vide/music streaming and for voice conversations requiring bandwidth availability assurance.

High security

Protecting a WLAN-based network from intruders or bandwidth hijackers requires device authentication or application access to the network. XpandR has passed WEP, WPA and WPA2 certification to ensure the appropriate level of security.

Wide coverage

Consumers want the same unlimited home coverage from their connected Wi-Fi devices as from their cordless handsets. XpandR implements maximum ration combining (MRC) technology to provide better coverage than solutions based on standard 802.11b/g technology.

Wi-Fi Direct certification

An exciting new way to use Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct is a revolutionary technology enabling connections among Wi-Fi devices anywhere and anytime, whether or not they connect to a traditional Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi Direct devices connect directly with one another to carry out sync, share, transfer, display, print and other tasks. DSP Group's XpandR solution is certified for Wi-Fi Direct, and works with third-party Wi-Fi Direct-certified devices as well as with legacy Wi-Fi products.

HD voice and cordless/DECT support
The world's only SoC solution supporting Wi-Fi and DECT, XpandR is certified by the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ Voice-Personal program of the Wi-Fi Alliance. One of the first devices to receive such certification, XpandR underscores DSP Group's commitment to high-definition (HD) wireless voice for the home. XpandR enables end-to-end voice over wireless (VoW) at a lower cost, better range and higher quality than alternative devices.
