VoIP

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) has been available to the public since the early 1980s, and has been interoperable with PSTN networks since the late 1990s. As VoIP-related standards and protocols such as Megaco, MGCP, H.323 and SIP have been established, service providers and consumer electronics(CE)manufacturers have promoted their interaction in order to be able to supply new subscriber services. Standardization bodies, meanwhile, have been created to facilitate product interoperability.

The DECT Forum, GSM Forum, CableLabs and other standardization bodies have endorsed SIP as the core protocol for VoIP, and have worked closely with the IETF to define a SIP-related standard. Another important standard to have arisen recently is Cordless Advanced Technology – Internet and Quality (CAT-iq). Defined and promoted by the DECT Forum, CAT-iq brings together broadband Internet and standard telephony. The standard, for example, helps determine how DECT phones can be used for VoIP and other Internet services.

DSP Group™ is an active member of standardization bodies such as the DECT Forum and its CAT-iq Marketing Working Group, as well as CableLabs. As a result, the Company helps define the standard, influences the market, and keeps abreast with the industry's latest innovations and requirements.

DSP Group is recognized for its worldwide leadership in DECT and VoIP. The Company has developed a set of cordless-over-IP (CoIP) solutions bringing together the two technologies as well as additional assets. DSP Group's VoIP terminal, for example, integrates cordless functionalities into a VoIP base, which is connected to the ISP.

By adding IP connectivity to the DECT phone, DSP Group enables MSOs and ISPs to offer a wide range of new applications and value-added services and features like multi-VoIP lines. Cordless phone users, meanwhile, enjoy IP features such as high-quality wide band audio.

DSP Group's software development kit (SDK) solutions help customers, including a number of the world's leading CE manufacturers like Panasonic, Siemens, Uniden, Philips and Motorola, rapidly develop a range of new products. These products range from home PBXs with DECT access points and home gateways (HGWs) with VoIP and cordless capabilities to fully featured VoIP phones and cordless VoIP analog adapters.
