Internet Radio

Overview
Introduced a few years ago as a device that receives and plays audio from Internet radio stations, Internet radios are now far more attractive and functional than just basic network music players. In addition to providing audio streaming functionality, Internet radio devices maintain infotainment capabilities (i.e. accessing news, weather, traffic updates, and other Internet-based information), while also serving as a calendar, an alarm clock, and a small digital picture viewer.
 
In response to the increasing popularity of this highly evolving residential communications device, DSP Group® offers an Internet radio reference design. Part of DSP Group's connected multimedia screen family, the reference design enables the cost-effective development of always-on Internet radios featuring immediate access to information capabilities. The DSP Group-designed Internet radio is also highly portable, built on an open platform, and can be easily personalized.
 
The reference design is based on the new-generation XpandR® family of multimedia chipset solutions. A system-on-a-chip (SoC) solution enabling rapid development of streaming media devices, the highly integrated Internet radio chipset based on the XpandR family is designed to address the unique needs of the Internet radio market segment.
 

At the heart of XpandR are the DMW ARM-based application processor and its companion digital signal processing core, TeakLite® DSP. Comprised of hardware and software development kits, the comprehensive XpandR family helps lower CE manufacturers' bill of materials (BOM), and consequently, retail prices, while ensuring fast time to market.
