CAT-iq or Cordless Advanced Technology – Internet and Quality, is the global technology platform for wireless voice, light data communications and broadband home connectivity. Initiated and promoted by the DECT Forum, and technically defined by the
European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), CAT-iq is bringing together broadband Internet and advanced cordless telephony.
Widely embraced by all leading European operators and already implemented in some home gateways and handsets, CAT-iq was created to meet the demands of the new generation of IP-based cordless devices. CAT-iq enables DECT phones to work with VoIP and other Internet-based services, while ensuring interoperability and being environmentally friendly. The technical specifications of CAT-iq, referred to as the next-generation DECT, are based on the reliable DECT standard, which operates in a protected frequency band. But unlike DECT, CAT-iq is comprised of a set of standards and requirements being certified by an approved body, thereby ensuring a certain level of user experience, quality and interoperability.
DSP Group has been deeply involved in all stages of defining CAT-iq, from both a marketing and technical perspective, since the technology platform's inception, via participation in the DECT Forum and ETSI DECT NG specifications. We are an active member of the Home Gateway Initiative (HGI), and support the specification activity of CableLabs, contributing to the evolution and implementation of CAT-iq in various markets and applications.
Leveraging our market leadership in DECT, DSP Group has invested significant resources in developing and shaping the CAT-iq standard, while maintaining extensive know-how and experience with the technology platform. DSP Group is a proven leader in CAT-iq 1.0; the profile's golden units and first 11 certified products are based on DSP Group platforms, and utilize our ICs and proven wideband audio (HD voice) technology. DSP Group also offers full reference designs that include CAT-iq software running on our various IC platforms.
DSP Group's technology is currently powering the sole official CAT-iq 2.0 certification test equipment. We have already developed the defined parts of future CAT-iq 2.1 and CAT-iq 3.0 profiles, and are providing support for the CAT-iq 3.0 specification prior to market development.
