Whether serving as an audio-only or audio/video device, Wi-Fi video baby monitors are becoming an increasingly popular home monitoring product. As such, DSP Group® offers a comprehensive wireless baby monitor reference design for handling audio or video capabilities or a combination of the two.
Part of DSP Group's connected multimedia screen family, the reference design enables the cost-effective development of always-on baby monitors featuring a touch screen and intuitive interface, as well as immediate access to information capabilities. The DSP Group-designed Wi-Fi video baby monitor is also highly portable, built on an open platform, and can be easily personalized.
The reference design is linked to a transmitter (i.e. baby unit), which enables transfer of data to the receiver (i.e. parent unit) while simultaneously handling wireless communications. By utilizing the Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g standard, the reference design can also interact with commonly used home gateways, enabling parents to monitor their baby's room from a PC at their office or other remote sites.
The parent unit, which can also be configured as a Wi-Fi access point, utilizes maximal-ratio combining (MRC) for increased range and sensitivity. As a result, the monitor enables throughput of over 30Mbps both within and outside the home, while displaying a full screen, full frame rate video stream received from the baby unit.
The baby monitor hardware and software reference design is based on DSP Group's XpandR® II chipset. Part of the Company's new-generation XpandR family of multimedia chipset solutions, the chipset is connected to an external camera module featuring a JPEG encoder for capturing visual information and compression. Audio received from the baby unit microphone and visual data received from the camera are sent in parallel to the remote monitoring parent unit.
Offering superior coverage, auto triggering via motion and/or audio detection (i.e. VAD, VOX), and low power consumption and radiation, the Wi-Fi reference design is ideal for visual wireless baby monitors as well as other residential security applications. |
